Academic Philosophy
The young people of B R Birla Public School
are encouraged to develop the habits of mind of scholars. To that end, BRBPS
offers a broad, rich and challenging curriculum. The curriculum promotes a
strong foundation in the academic disciplines, a broad exposure to the liberal
arts, and selective opportunities to pursue individual interests. As students
progress through the grades, the program becomes increasingly flexible and
offers a wide array of electives beyond the core curriculum.
Teachers provide challenging classroom
experiences designed to encourage curiosity and breadth of interest,
self-expression, joy, and aesthetic sensibility. The classes have a manageable
number of students and teachers encourage them to participate actively in
discussion, to work together creatively to solve problems, to communicate their
ideas effectively, and to learn from each other.
The BRBPS program is demanding, but the
culture of the school is also caring and supportive. Students build close
personal relationships with their teachers. The environment in the school is
one of cooperation and a shared endeavor in the pursuit of learning and growth.
Extra help outside of the classroom is an important element of the BRBPS
culture as teachers recognize their students’ individual needs and learning
styles. We believe that students learn best when they can trust in their
teachers’ kindness and understanding and when the classroom is a safe haven for
all questions and ideas.
An important facet of the word “hopefulness”
entails the promise of benefits that accrue both from the process and the
reality of learning. This hopefulness prompts the school now, more than ever,
to strive to be a community that lays the foundation for a lifetime love of
learning.
The academic program at the BR Birla Public
School is designed to meet the needs of young children. Childhood is a period of rapid growth as children seek means to learn and achieve; they
need to nourish their developing mental abilities. Young children need a sound
base of experiences that are essential for later learning, a strong sense of
self -esteem and excitement & curiosity for learning. It is during this
time that children develop higher order thinking skills such as
problem-solving, critical thinking, creative thinking, societal thinking,
reflecting thinking etc. Our Curriculum is planned and developed to create such
experiences for your child.

Pedagogy
Inquiry is the leading pedagogical approach
that is distinctive of the BRBPS classroom. The inquiry-based approach
encourages students to take responsibility and ownership of their learning.
Inquiry facilitates conceptual exploration that is customized to the needs of
each student as opposed to a traditional instructional model that only delivers
information. Our learning community as BRBPS does not view knowledge as static
but rather as a constantly evolving, collaborative process that necessitates
original thinking and research.
While always accepting the value of
student-centered learning, the school also embraces a variety of approaches to
teaching and content, from a traditional lecture and discussion format to a
range of more experiential approaches and teaching strategies like QAXP, RAFT,
Reciprocal teaching, JIGSAW, Think Pair & Share, Four Corners etc.
Faculty development programs and professional development workshops give our facilitators the extra edge they need to stay connected with changing approaches to pedagogy.
